Default MikePaixao, Hail Storm

So I havnt really had many VFX gigs, but ive always been interested in making them, this has now inspired me to try my hand at it

so heres my idea, I have found a random street image online, I will begin by cleaning it up into my BG plate (removing all humans and anything that would normally "move" in the shot

next I plan to make a small 5 second pan and I will be making some 3D breakable objects to get things rolling

ok, so didnt take long to run into a problem, I decided to create a larger background image then what the final shot will be (920 x 425) this way I can make a small pan or shake into the camera, but it turns out Maya is not happy with non-square resolutions, so if anyone has this problem, you cant fix it in UV's, you actually have to go into the placed2Dtexture node of the file, and set the tilling options until you have it right (in my case i finished with U = 1 and V = 2.25 )

so far ive setup my basic scene, set the camera render resolution and animated a small pan to the right, next step I will start making the 3D objects to break, now the tricky part shal start!

and I look foreward to posting many updates, feel free to ask any questions if I forget something

p.s. if my images are too big let me know, ill just link them instead of embeding

ok, seeing as ive never done this before, I took a day to research all the different ways to make ice storms, I also started some low rez dynamic tests

i will have some dynamic smaller ice, but i will also be animating some larger pieces, wich i plan to break into smaller pieces... and all will go boom.
